Our story
Small Steps for Change was founded in Sweden in 2015.
Our first and current project (ministry) is in Antipolo City, Philippines. We have different areas; Children and Family Ministries, Livelihood Projects, Education for Young People, Church Planting and Discipleship.
The project in Barangay Inarawan, Antipolo City started by gathering children and families for a Christmas Program last December 2017.
This was the initiative of a former principal who had the desire to reach out to the families in her community, especially with the children. This project is in partnership with Faith Christian Fellowship, and is part of their local outreach.
The local government of Barangay Inarawan is informed and aware of the different projects that we are doing.
One of our areas is Children’s Ministry, and we started free tutorials in a small place. They learned about Christian Values Education, and other subjects to help them be better in school, and to develop life skills to equip them to be better citizens of the country, and contribute to their community.
Our next step…
It was in March 2018, that we prepared a little bit bigger place so we can accommodate some more children for the free tutorials. We are thankful for all our volunteers who helped out in the initial stages of the ministry!
May 2018, as part of our Children’s Ministry we had our first 3-day summer program for the children to continually develop their talents and skills, and grow in their relationship with God. We have arts and crafts, dance, basic guitar and singing lessons, game boards, and Bible stories.
It was last October 2018, that we started to build and set-up a tent as our Multi-Purpose Hall for our activities. November 10, 2018 was our first church gathering under the tent!
In local community context, it is important that the approach is holistic to bring transformation in the lives of the people. We believe that transformation means addressing the holistic needs of every person and every community.
It is our desire that our mission and vision would be realized when the people and the community will experience a holistic transformation which includes their economic needs. It was last December 2018, that we started to bring awareness in the community about “how to start a business,” and livelihood. Together, we encouraged one another with different business ideas, but we are still learning about making business plans, and basic financial management with the help of some of our network organizations.
Lastly, it was last May 2019, that we started our first batch of out-of-school youths to be enrolled in the Alternative Learning System, which is a part of the government program.
We are thankful to our family and friends who have been supportive in every step of the way! Thank you to all our partners and sponsors!
We are grateful to Sandeslätts Kristna Församling, Furulundskyrkan, and Faith Christian Fellowship who have been with us from the very beginning. It is our desire to continually partner with organizations that share with our mission and vision!
It all started with a small step, and with the Lord’s guidance, we are committed to continue our journey in bringing transformation in every community that we are engaged in.
